To understand the significance of the 1966 GT350, you first have to know its predecessor, the ’65. Famously driven by Mark Donohue, the 1965 GT350R helped launch one of the most celebrated racing careers of the era and cemented Shelby’s place in performance history. That success put the spotlight on the GT350 name and made the transition into the 1966 model year all the more important.

While mechanical changes - such as the dash tach, Cobra dress-up parts, and performance upgrades - distinguished the ’66 from the original ’65, it was the expansion of exterior colors and the nuanced use of racing stripes that most visibly defined the ’66 GT350.
